MANILA, Philippines — Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Monday urged nearby local government units to properly manage its waste materials in rivers and creeks that could end up polluting the city.
“Katulad ng nabanggit ko, from the east towards the west, lahat ‘yun sinasapo namin. In fact, I will not mention a local government unit, doon sa boundary namin, makikita niyo loaded ng basura,” Moreno told ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo.
(Like what I mentioned, from the east towards the west, we get all the waste materials. In fact, part of a local government unit in our boundary is loaded with trash.)
Moreno said it was the local government unit of Manila that removed the waste materials in the concerned area “loaded” with waste.
“Bilang pakikiisa sa MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority), modesty aside, you can see it in our Facebook na kami pa ang kumukuha kahit na alam namin na boundary na ‘yun, just to show our sincere approach on how to address solid waste materials in our creek,” he added.
(As part of help to the MMDA, modesty aside and as you can see in our Facebook page, we were even the ones to remove the waste materials even if it is already in the boundary, just to show our sincere approach on addressing solid waste materials in our creek.)
“Sana ang pamahalaan, lokal at nasyonal, mahigpit lalo na kung pabrika ang pinag-uusapan, kasi malaki ang volume ng itatapon niyan na posibleng maruming tubig sa mga kanal, estero, at ilog ng aming city, kasi kami ang sasalo eh,” Moreno also said.
(I hope that the government, whether local or national, will be strict on this matter especially concerning factories because we are talking about large volumes of waste that could end up in the creeks and rivers in our city.)
