Magnitude 6.4 quake jolts parts of Southern Mindanao

DAVAO CITY, Davao del Sur, Philippines — A magnitude 6.4 quake in Davao Occidental sent people rushing out of their homes shortly before midnight on Sunday, Sept. 6.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) traced the epicenter of the quake that struck at 11:23 p.m. on Sunday 40 kilometers southeast of Don Marcelino town in Davao Occidental.

The quake, which had a depth of focus of 149 kilometers, brought back memories of the series of magnitude 6  quakes that jolted this part of Mindanao in the last quarter of last year, sending thousands away from their homes to sleep in the open fields.
