MANILA, Philippines — The 12-year-old steel footbridge at the busy Bicutan intersection of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) was closed to pedestrians on Sunday to pave the way for its repair for the first time.
The repair of the footbridge, which is at the border of the cities of Parañaque and Taguig, will be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways and will last for four months.
During the repair work, traffic personnel will be deployed “round the clock” to assist pedestrians crossing SLEx between Doña Soledad Avenue in Parañaque and General Santos Avenue in Taguig.
An estimated 500,000 pedestrians use the footbridge daily before the pandemic.
The P98-million Bicutan steel footbridge was inaugurated in 2008. Spanning half a kilometer, it is considered the longest steel footbridge in the country.
