LAGUNA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President is seeking to distribute 100,000 reusable cloth face masks to communities and sectors that are badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic, as the world continues to grapple with the deadly disease.

Vice President Leni Robredo said her office and its partners have already handed over 1,420 face masks to frontliners, COVID-19 patients, locally-stranded individuals, and street dwellers living in Metro Manila, as part of the #MasKampante project.

“Nakapagpaabot na rin tayo sa ating mga kababayang nangangailangan ng face masks, kasabay ng hot meals na handog ng ating tanggapan at ng ating #AngatBuhay partners,” Robredo said in a Facebook post.

The said face masks, an essential protective gear against COVID-19, were sewn by unemployed residents of Marikina City, Laguna, Rizal, and Bulacan who were tapped by the OVP to help their families survive the health crisis.

“Taos-puso tayong napasasalamat sa Team Pilipinas sa pagsisimula nila ng inisiyatibong ito, at sa kanilang pakikiisa sa adhikaing gawing mas ligtas at masuportahan ang ating mga kapwa Pilipino sa panahong ito,” she concluded.
