Santiago present in Senate, to sit at Corona trial

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago showed up in the Senate on Tuesday after a weeklong absence due to hypertension.

Santiago received a commendation by the Senate for her election as one of the judges in the International Criminal Court.

“Sana ipagpatuloy mo doon ang magagandang ginawa mo dito,” said Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile when he presented to her the resolution commending her for the ICC post.

“Ipakita natin ang talinong Filipino,” Enrile added.

Santiago is also expected to attend for the first time the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona at 2:00 p.m.
