CEBU CITY – The mayor of Barili, Cebu died early Sunday morning, six days after his brother passed away.
Marlon Garcia joined his brother Nelson, the former mayor of Dumanjug town, according to their brother, former Government Service Insurance System President Winston Garcia in a post on Facebook.
The cause of death was not specified, although the late mayor’s sister, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, confirmed in a speech on August 2 that Marlon was infected with the new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“To lose one brother is painful enough, but to lose another brother in the same week, my heart just can not take any further. The true fighter that he was, my brother, Marlon has been fighting for his life for the last few weeks,” Winston said.
“This morning, he joins my brother, Nelson, and my mother in heaven,” he added.
Their other siblings are Rep. Pablo John Garcia of Cebu’s third district; and Byron Garcia, former Capitol security consultant and head of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Their parents are former governor and congressman Pablo Garcia and judge Esperanza Fiel Garcia who died in 2016.
