Ifugao town councilor killed as car falls into ravine; 5 others hurt

BAGUIO CITY– A municipal councilor of Tinoc, Ifugao was killed while five others were injured after their vehicle fell into a steep ravine in Kabayan, Benguet on Saturday afternoon.

Police identified the fatality as Mercury Binwihan, 54, a resident of Barangay Impogong in Tinoc.

Binwihan was driving their blue Mitsubishi  Strada pickup along Sitio Mangkew in Barangay Pacso but miscalculated a sharp curve while navigating a descending road around 2 p.m., investigators said.

The car plunged into the 50-foot ravine, police said.

The injured passengers were identified as Norwin Carpio, Jonathan Binwihan, Elsa Paeng, Analiza Carpio and Leizel Ann Dulnuan.

Police said the victims came from La Trinidad, Benguet and were heading to a relative’s wake when they figured in the accident.

Responding residents and members of the Kabayan Bureau of Fire Protection brought the injured passengers to the Kabayan Rural Health Unit for treatment.
