MANILA, Philippines — The bus driver, who was behind the vehicular crash in Makati City that left 13 people wounded, will face complaints for narcotics use, police said Saturday.
Makati police chief Col. Oscar Jacildo confirmed this in a text message, saying suspect Marlon Yandug Nacaytona was found positive for shabu or crystal meth use after undertaking a drug test.
According to a police report, Nacaytona was driving a Pitbull Bus when he struck 11 motorcycles, a car, and another bus along Osmeña Highway in Makati City on Friday at 9 a.m. Police said the faulty bus’ brakes supposedly malfunctioned.
Nacaytona will face charges for violation of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, said Jacildo.
Show cause order
Aside from cases, Nacayton and his manager at Pitbull Bus firm are directed to respond for their violation of reckless driving and improper person to operate a motor vehicle under Land Transportation and Traffic Code due to the Makati accident.
In a statement from the Department of Transportation on Friday, the Land Transportation Office issued a show cause order against the accused, ordering them to appear before the LTO’s Law Enforcement Service office in East Avenue, Quezon City on Sept. 9 at 2 p.m.
Failure to appear at the LTO office will lead to suspension or revocation of Nacayton’s driver’s license as well as imposition of sanctions against the Pitbull Bus operator.
The transportation agency said the driver will likewise face preventive suspension.
DOTr added that it would not tolerate illegal acts of motorists that would pose danger to the lives of other motorists.
“Let this serve as a warning to all our road transport partners that the DOTr, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the LTO will not tolerate this irresponsible and reckless manner of driving which poses danger to life and damage to property,” read the statement.
“We will see to it that the full force of the law will be applied to these erring drivers and operators,” it added.
