Lanao del Sur under MECQ from Sept. 7 to 30 as COVID-19 cases rise

MANILA, Philippines —  A member of the interim Bangsamoro parliament has announced that Lanao del Sur will be placed under modified enhanced community quarantine from Sept. 7 to 30 as coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases rise in the area.

In a Facebook post by Bangsamoro Transition Authority Member Zia Alonto Adiong on Friday, he said the decision to place Lanao del Sur under MECQ was also because of the presence of local transmission in the area.

“Based on the monthly Covid-19 Data Analysis Report of Lanao del Sur Provincial Inter-Agency Taskforce, in the month of August, the province recorded a number of 167 positive Covid-19 cases of which 119 are declared local transmission,” Adiong said.

“This month of September, 11 cases are recorded, all are considered local transmission,” he added.

He then said that as of Friday, Lanao del Sur’s record of COVID-19 cases has reached 360, with 112 active cases and 241 recoveries.

Aside from Lanao del Sur, Iligan City was also placed under MECQ.

Metro Manila, Bulacan, Batangas, Tacloban City, and Bacolod, meanwhile, were placed under general community quarantine.

The rest of the country was placed under the most lenient modified enhanced community quarantine.

As of Friday, there 232,072 COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, with 160,549 recoveries and 3,737 deaths.
