House of Representatives COVID-19 cases rise to 64

MANILA, Philippines — The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections in the House of Representatives is now at 64 after two new cases were confirmed.

According to House Secretary-General Jose Luis Montales on Saturday, the first of the two new cases involved an employee assigned at the Oversight Committee who last reported to work last Sept. 1 and 2.

The second new case involves an employee from the Information and Communications Technology Service, who last reported for work on Aug. 24 and 26.

Both employees are not close contacts of any confirmed cases in the House of Representatives, Montales said.

At present, 13 COVID-19 cases in the House of Representatives are active cases.

“Contact tracing is ongoing,” the House Secretary-General said.

As of Friday, there are now 232,072 COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, with 160,549 recoveries and 3,737 deaths.
