MANILA, Philippines — With Typhoon Kristine (international name: Haishen) still far from the Philippine landmass, cloudy skies and light rains are expected over most parts of the country due to localized thunderstorms on Friday night.
In its 5 p.m. live weather update, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Ana Clauren said that the rains that may be experienced on Metro Manila and other parts of the Philippines will only be brief.
“May manipis na kaulapan lamang ang bumabalot sa ating kapuluan,” Clauren said. “Kaya kung may pag-ulan man tayo maranasan, ‘yan po ay panandalian lamang at dulot lamang po ng mga localized thunderstorms.”
(There is a thin cloud hovering over our landmass. That’s why if rains persist, it is only temporary and is only caused by localized thunderstorms.)
Meanwhile, Kristine was last spotted at 1,285 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.
The typhoon also packed sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 230 kph.
Kristine was also monitored moving west-northwest at 15 kph, Clauren said.
The latest weather disturbance is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) either Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
