DAGUPAN CITY –– Two new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were recorded in this city on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases to 13, officials said.
Dr. Ophelia Rivera, COVID-19 focal person of the city, said the spike was alarming because new cases have been recorded daily since Aug. 25.
The city had not recorded new cases for three weeks until Aug. 13 when a medical front-liner was infected with the virus.
Except for the medical front-liner, no other COVID-19 cases were reported until Aug. 24.
Between Aug. 25 to Sept. 3, 13 new cases were recorded in the city.
Mayor Brian Lim reiterated his call for Dagupeños to follow the minimum health and safety protocols set by the city government, such as wearing face masks and face shields, and frequent washing of hands with soap and water.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod also wanted to implement a mandatory wearing of face shields in addition to face masks.
The areas where face shields might soon be required are public places, commercial areas, government offices, hospitals and educational institutions, and places of religious worship, and Galvan Street, which is used as a market. INQ
