BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—A 59-year-old woman from Dupax del Sur town has died of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID)-19, officials said.

The woman died on Monday (Aug. 31) but her coronavirus infection was confirmed by lab test results only on Wednesday (Sept. 2), according to Dr. Edwin Galapon, Nueva Vizcaya health officer.

Galapon said the patient was the province’s fifth COVID-19 fatality, adding that officials have yet to determine how she got infected since she has had travel history.

As of Wednesday, local health officials have recorded nine COVID-19 fatalities in the entire Cagayan Valley region.
