12 health workers in Eastern Visayas positive for COVID-19

TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 12 more health workers in Eastern Visayas tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Dr. Minerva Molon, director of the Department of Health (DOH), said most of these health workers, consisting of doctors and nurses, were asymptomatic.

The region currently has 324 health workers who contracted the virus.

Of the number, 176 have recovered, Molon said.

“We will protect our health workers as they continue to protect us. Our healthcare workers are vital in this fight,” she said.

“We will help and unburden our healthcare workers and frontliners by ensuring that our hospitals and healthcare facilities are decongested and do not reach the maximum capacity. When we slow down the rate of infection transmission, we prevent our hospitals from 100 percent capacity,” she added.

In Naval town, Biliran province, Mayor Gerard Espina is giving P40,000 in financial aid to frontliners who test positive for COVID-19.

“The financial assistance will answer for the needs of the family of the COVID-19 positive frontliner given that he/she will be incapacitated while undergoing treatment,” the mayor said.
