Mental health, psychosocial support helpline launched in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY –– The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office launched a mental health and psychosocial support helpline amid the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Mark Katalbas, provincial health and substance abuse coordinator, said they have two volunteer-registered guidance counselors from the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College and a psychologist to assist the helpline callers.

“There are depressed individuals because of the prolonged quarantine, and those suffering from fear and anxiety as COVID-19 can hit anyone,” he said.

“There is no health without mental health, we need to help those who need psychological intervention and counseling,” he added.

The helpline will specialize in COVID-19 concerns, especially of overseas Filipino workers and locally stranded individuals.

Those feeling anxious or worried because of the COVID-19 pandemic may call 09615729197 and 09659821851 for help, he said.
