Market vendor killed in own home in Taguig

MANILA, Philippines—A woman was found murdered in her own home in Taguig City, and police are looking at revenge as a possible motive.

Police reports said that Cecilia Esteban, 54, was found dead by her two nephews inside her house in DMC Extension, Barangay Sta. Ana, Taguig City, on Friday night.

Initial investigation showed that Esteban, who owned a stall at the Sta. Ana Public Market, sustained multiple stab wounds in her head, abrasions on both her arms and marks of a rope around her neck—which the police said could have been the cause of her death.

Blood stains were also scattered on the floor, on a bed and in two plastic cabinets, while her personal belongings were scattered on the floor.

A small piece of paper with the words “gumaganti lang” (just seeking revenge) was also found near Esteban’s body.

Esteban’s nephews, Reymond and Richmon Boquiron, went to their aunt’s house on Friday night and discovered her lifeless body after she failed to show up at her store that day. The two were manning Esteban’s store before they went to her house.

The police have not identified a suspect in the killing.
