Duterte to join other world leaders in Aqaba teleconference

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday is expected to engage world leaders via teleconference in the Aqaba Process, an anti-terrorism initiative launched by Jordanian King Abdullah II.

“Mamaya po sasapi po siya dun sa tinatawag na Aqaba Process, isang pagpupulong ng mga iba’t ibang namumunong mga lider sa buong daigdig, at ito po ay pinasimulan po ng King of Jordan,” Duterte’s spokesman Harry Roque said in an interview over state-run PTV.

Aside from security challenges, the meetings, which was launched in 2015, will also cover means of unifying and integrating efforts among participants to counter risks related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The coronavirus has so far infected over 25 million people worldwide.

The Philippines has the highest COVID-19 caseload in the entire Southeast Asian region with 224,264 confirmed cases, including 158,012 recoveries and 3,597 deaths.
