Military mulls legal raps vs Red fighters in Bukidnon

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY –– The military is set to file charges against several alleged leaders of the New People’s Army (NPA) over alleged abuses committed by the communist rebels in Bukidnon province.

Col. Ferdinand Barandon, commander of the Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade, said the cases that they would file in a local court pertain to alleged violations of the international humanitarian law (IHL) committed by the NPA against civilians.

The incidents include abduction, attack on civilians, and damage to civilian properties.

A local court here has been designated to handle IHL cases.

This will be the second time in recent years that the Army pursued legal charges against NPA personalities. The first was in November last year.
