Vizcaya town wants tougher lockdown as COVID-19 cases surge

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya–Officials in Solano have recommended stricter community quarantine in the town due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

The recommendation was endorsed by the provincial COVID-19 inter-agency task force (IATF) to the regional IATF.

Nueva Vizcaya Gov. Carlos Padilla, who led the emergency meeting of the provincial IATF members, cited the “urgency of the matter” to agree that Solano should be placed on modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ). ECQ is considered to be the most stringest form of community quarantine.

Solano recorded at least 40 new cases of COVID-19 in the past two weeks.

Mayors in this province had earlier asked for a province-wide MECQ but the move was postponed and selective lockdowns, which officials call granular, were imposed instead.

Health officials in the region said Nueva Vizcaya had already recorded fourth deaths due to COVID-19. Isabela and Cagayan had two fatalities each while Quirino had zero.

Batanes has remained free of COVID-19.
