Suspecting an affair, wife allegedly attacks husband with cleaver

SIBU, Malaysia — A housewife has been arrested for allegedly attacking her husband with a cleaver because she suspected he had been having an affair.

Sibu OCPD, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said at about 10:30 pm on Aug 31, a police team, acting on information that a man had been critically injured during a domestic quarrel, rushed to the first floor of a shophouse on Jalan Amoi here.

“The team found a man groaning in pain with cuts on both hands and knee,” he said.

After some questioning, they detained the man’s 27-year-old wife.

ACP Stanley said at 10 am on Aug 31, the suspect had stopped the victim, a cement mixer, from going out as she suspected he was seeing another woman.

“This led to a quarrel between the two. In a heated moment, the woman took out a meat cleaver and tried to slash him,” he said.

Seeing this, the victim used his both hands to ward off the attack.

The suspect then aimed at his left leg.

“The grandfather of the suspect stopped the woman by dragging her out of the house while her sister called the police,” he said.

The victim sustained cuts on his both hands and left knee.

Apart from arresting the wife, police also seized a 28cm cleaver believed to be the weapon.

“The couple has been married for three years and has one child,” said ACP Stanley.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
