MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Julian and the southwest monsoon or habagat are expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan, the state weather bureau said Monday.
In its 24-hour public weather forecast issued 5 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Julian was last seen 700 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph.
The typhoon is moving north-northwestward at 35 km/h, Pagasa noted.
“Patuloy pa rin pong nakakahila ng habagat si Typhoon Julian na nakakaapekto ngayon sa Central at Southern Luzon,” Pagasa weather specialist Ariel Rojas said.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.
Pagasa warned residents of possible flash floods and landslides during severe rain or thunderstorms.
Pagasa is also monitoring a tropical depression outside the Philippine territory which was last seen 2,550 km east of extreme Northern Luzon.
It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
The tropical depression is “almost stationary”, the weather bureau said.
