MANILA, Philippines – An explosion rocked Salcedo village in Makati City Monday afternoon, rattling parked vehicles and sending debris into the windows of nearby commercial and residential establishments.
Police have cordoned off a vacant lot, the site of the explosion, at the corner of H.V. dela Costa and Tordesillas streets at past 2 p.m., a Radyo Inquirer 990 report said. It added that the nearest residential structure to the lot was the Salcedo Park condominium.
The blast broke the windows of five vehicles parked near the vacant lot, the report said.
Despite the strength of the blast, Superintendent Jaime Santos, chief of the Makati City police department, said that there was “nothing to worry about” and that no one was killed or hurt. He said that it was fortunate that not many people were out on the street when the blast occurred.
He added that they were on red alert on holidays and their Explosives and Ordnance Division had rushed to the scene after hearing the loud blast.
Authorities were conducting post-blast investigation in the area and have yet to determine what caused the explosion.
