Pagasa: Expect rains in Metro Manila, Luzon to due Typhoon Julian, ‘habagat’

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Julian (international name: Maysak) and the southwest monsoon or “habagat” are bringing scattered rain showers over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, the state weather bureau said Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered moderate to at times heavy rains.

Visayas and Mindanao will experience isolated rain showers caused by the “habagat” and localized thunderstorms.

As of 3 a.m., Pagasa said the eye of Typhoon Julian was 715 kilometers (km) east of Basco, Batanes.

It packs a maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

“Kapag hindi nabago ang kilos ng bagyong Julian ay inaasahan po natin bukas nang madaling araw ay lalabas na ito ng ating Philippine area of responsibility, si bagyong Julian,” Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar D. Aurelio said.

(If it does not change its course, Typhoon Julian is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility early tomorrow morning)
