Armed men destroy school for tribal communities in Bukidnon town

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, Philippines — A school for the tribal communities in San Fernando town in Bukidnon was destroyed by a group of armed men last Wednesday, the Save Our Schools Network (SOS) said on Saturday (Aug. 29).

According to a post on the SOS Facebook account,  the Mindanao Interfaith Services Foundation Inc. (MISFI) Academy is located in Barangay Matupe in San Fernando.

SOS said witnesses, including teachers, saw around 50 men demolish two of the school buildings as they tore and threw out learning materials.

The teachers said they were threatened when they were about to take photos of the attackers.

On its Facebook page, MISFI said that the Matupe campus had a permit from the Department of Education and had been operating for more than a decade.
