MANILA, Philippines–The Ayala Alabang Village homeowner’s association will implement strict measures for leases of contract entered into by some residents starting this week as the village reels from the bad publicity generated from the discovery recently of three shabu laboratories inside the posh village.
The announcement is contained in a statement emailed to news organizations on Monday.
The statement said that in a meeting held recently with the barangay officials led by Brgy. Chair Alfredo Xeres-Burgos and the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the village officials headed by Dr. Leandro de Leon said that his association will screen new leases of contracts and will initiate background checks on new tenants.
They will also implement the homeowner’s rights strictly and assured homeowners that no rights will be violated in the course of raids on suspected shabu laboratories inside the village.
“We wanted to ask for their cooperation so that we can improve the security,” said Xerex-Burgos.
Muntinlupa Mayor Alvin San Pedro has called the barangay and homeowners association to a meeting This week to further discuss what measures can be implemented to prevent another occurrence which has embarrassed many
residents in the village.
The statement quoted the PDEA as saying that drug syndicates took advantage of the tight security in the village because they knew that their privacy will not be compromised.
The criminal elements usually rent homes inside exclusive subdivisions to evade suspicion, the statement stated.
“They have to be keen and watchful especially if their neighbors are tenants and foreigners,” said Gen. Pedrito Magsino of PDEA-National Capital Region.
PDEA is investigating if the homeowners, who owned the houses turned into shabu laboratories by its tenants, are involved in the drug trade, the statement added.
