3 missing Ivatan fishermen rescued

ITBAYAT, BATANES—Three fishermen, who had gone missing for a week, were rescued on Thursday near the northernmost Dinem Island here, officials said.

Antonio Lizardo, 53; Eduardo Elica, 35; and Tinong Alviso, 45, were severely dehydrated when they were found by their fellow fishermen, according to Nilda Salengua Garcia, municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer.

The three took shelter on Dinem Island, an hour from Basco town, the provincial capital. They failed to return home on Aug. 22 due to bad weather. —NATHAN ALCANTARA AND VILLAMOR VISAYA JR.
