Tuguegarao police chief, 14 other cops contract COVID-19

TUGUEGARAO CITY –– Fifteen policemen here, including the city police chief, have been infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), authorities said.

Citing provincial health office records, Rogelio Sending Jr., Cagayan provincial information officer, said the infection among the police officers raised to 38 the active COVID-19 cases in Cagayan province as of Thursday.

Dr. Carlos Cortina III, Cagayan provincial health officer, said most of these new cases were from this city, while the others were in the towns of Alcala, Enrile, Baggao Abulug, Iguig, Lal-lo, and Santo Niño.

Police also stopped the musical concert of the Alcala local government led by Mayor Cristina Antonio on Wednesday for allegedly violating health protocols.

But Antonio denied reports that it was a mass gathering, saying they intended the event for a social media audience and observed physical distancing.

She said the event was carried out with a 50-percent capacity as required in a modified general community quarantine status of the town. INQ
