LPA off Aurora may intensify into storm – Pagasa

Public Weather Forecast Issued at 4:00 PM August 27, 2020

MANILA, Philippines —  A low pressure area (LPA) east of Aurora ay develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours while the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will affect a large portion of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Friday morning.

The LPA was last spotted 1,075 kilometers east of Casiguran town, Pagasa said in its 4 a.m. weather bulletin.

“Ang nasabing LPA ay malaki ang potensyal na maging bagyo at inaasahan natin na posible itong maging isang ganap na tropical depression sa susunod na 24 hours,” Pagasa weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said.

(The said LPA may potentially become a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.)

“Samantala, patuloy pa ring nakakaapekto ang southwest monsoon or habagat sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa,” he added.

(Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to affect a large portion of the country.)

According to Pagasa’s forecast,  cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms  due to the “habagat” will prevail in the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have fair weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers likewise due to the southwest monsoon and  localized thunderstorms.
