LUCENA CITY—The annual search is on for model sons and daughters of Quezon province to be given the “Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan” (QMK), in time for the 133rd birthday celebration of the late President Manuel Luis M. Quezon on Aug. 19.

“There are so many great Quezonians who could serve as inspirations to their province mates. We have to scour every village and town in search for them,” said Lucena Bishop Emilio Marquez, vice chair of the QMK awards committee.

Lawyer Vicente Joyas, head of the 16-member awards committee, is seeking the cooperation of civic groups, academe, local government, media, non-government and people’s organizations in Quezon to widen the scope of the search.

The annual search has two categories—“Gintong Medalya ng Karangalan” (GMK) also known as the “Life Achievement Award” and “Medalya ng Karangalan” (MK), or the “Special Achievement Award”—that are given to Quezonians with “exceptional and meritorious achievements”

FEATURED STORIES

Last year, Gov. David Suarez cancelled the annual search to make it more exhaustive. The governor appoints members of awards committee.

Nomination forms are available at the QMK secretariat at the provincial tourism office, or can be downloaded at www.quezon.gov.ph. The deadline for submission of nomination ends on June 30.
