PH COVID case tally now over 205K with 3,249 new cases

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines’ total tally of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases reached over 205,000 after 3,249 new infections were logged by the Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday.

Based on the latest case bulletin from the DOH, the total number of COVID-19 cases is now at  205,5811, of which 68,357 are active cases.

Metro Manila, deemed the epicenter of the pandemic in the country, recorded the most number of new cases with 1,584; followed by Cavite with 147; Laguna with 143; Negros Occidental with 140, and Batangas with 123.

Majority or 91.3 percent are considered mild cases, 6.6 percent are asymptomatic cases, 1.2 percent are critical cases and 0.8 percent are severe cases.

The DOH also recorded 566 new recoveries, bringing the total number of successfully recovered patients to 133,990.

Meanwhile, the country’s death toll rose to 3,234 after 97 new fatalities were logged.

The department said that it removed 29 duplicates from the total case count, of which 12 recoveries were removed.

The DOH also noted that there were 24 cases previously reported as recovered, but were later identified as fatalities after final validation.
