MANILA, Philippines — A new isolation center in Pasay will be established to ensure strict quarantine procedure for COVID-19 patients that will help contain the spread of the virus, the city government said on Thursday.

In a Facebook post, Pasay Mayor Emi Calixto Rubiano earlier inspected the 300 container vans located at SM Mall of Asia Complex and Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The Department of Public Works and Highways will help the local government to transform the container vans into isolation rooms.

The container vans already have air-conditioning units, toilets as well as bathrooms for the hygiene needs of patients, the city government also noted.

In a text message to reporters, Pasay public information office chief Eduardo Burgos Jr. said the City Health Office will screen the patients who will be accommodated in the facility.

Burgos added that the isolation facility is expected to start operations after two weeks.

As of Wednesday, Pasay logged 3,423 total cases of COVID-19 with 2,695 recoveries and 131 deaths.
