CITY OF MALOLOS –– A proposed ordinance in Bulacan will require farmers to wear face masks or face shields when tending to their fields as a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Board member Emily Isidro-Viceo of the 3rd district, vice-chair of the health committee, filed the bill that would make it compulsory for farm workers to wear face protection while planting or using the manual hand tractor.
Under the proposed ordinance, violators would be fined between P1,000 and P5,000.
Pol Fajardo, president of the Bulacan provincial agricultural and fisheries Council, said they welcomed the proposal even if their 20,000 members might find it difficult to comply.
Vice Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, health committee chair, said the board would decide this week whether to pass the proposed ordinance or exempt farmers from wearing face masks.
