TACLOBAN CITY –– The city government of Borongan in Eastern Samar has started the construction of four isolation buildings for patients of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after the Department of Education requested local government units to vacate schools used as quarantine or isolation facilities.
The facilities, located in the villages of San Jose, Maypandan, Sta. Fe, and Benowangan, are expected to be completed next month.
The city government allocated P30.76 million for the project.
“At least our city is ready. We have facilities to be used by our locally stranded individuals, returning overseas workers, and authorized persons outside residence (APOR),” said Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda.
Once the pandemic is over, he said these facilities would be converted to health centers.
Last August 25, Agda issued an executive order allowing hotels, lodging houses, and other commercial centers to be used as quarantine facilities amid the surge of returning residents to the city.
Borongan City, the provincial capital of Eastern Samar, has 228 persons under monitoring and eight COVID-19 cases.
The city is currently under modified general community quarantine.
