SAN ANTONIO, ZAMBALES –– An Army soldier has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Subic Bay Freeport, authorities said.
Wilma Eisma, chair of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), said the 35-year-old soldier was asymptomatic and quarantined at a hotel.
It was not immediately known how the soldier contracted the virus, but Eisma said he tested positive when he arrived inside the free port reportedly for training.
Aside from the soldier, Eisma said a 61-year-old businesswoman in the free port has also tested positive for COVID-19.
SBMA has also ordered the temporary closure of a bank office in the free port after an employee contracted the virus.
The free port now has eight confirmed COVID-19 cases, excluding the virus-stricken workers of a container terminal there, who were listed in their hometowns.
