TACLOBAN CITY—A retired policeman and his son were killed by still unidentified assailants as they alighted from a bus in front of the cathedral in Palo town, Leyte province early on Tuesday (Aug. 25).
Pio Peñaflor and his son, Alphy, residents of Mag-aso village in Jaro town, also in Leyte, suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the Eastern Visayas police, the two had disembarked from a bus around 7:20 a.m. when the perpetrators on board a sports utility vehicle fired at them using still unknown calibers of firearms.
The former policeman died instantaneously. His son tried to run but was chased and finished off by one of the assailants.
The bodies of the two were brought to the Tapitan Funeral Homes in Palo.
The local police have yet to identify the perpetrators and the motive for the killing.
