Isabela businesswoman found dead in cornfield

CITY OF ILAGAN–A 53-year-old businesswoman was found dead in a cornfield in this city on Monday (Aug. 24), police said.

Lt. Col. Virgilio VI-Con Abellera Jr., Ilagan City police chief, said victim Josephine Villamar was hit on the head with a hard object.

Villamar could have been a victim of a robbery before she was killed, investigators said.

Police said the victim went to buy food on Sunday (Aug. 23) morning but failed to return home. Her relatives immediately informed village officials that she had gone missing.

During the search, a village watchman spotted Villamar’s body in the cornfield.

Investigators said the victim’s hand bag, containing an undisclosed amount of money and other valuables, was missing.
