Cotabato town police chief dies while hunting suspects in shooting incident

MANILA, Philippines — The police chief of Carmen town in Cotabato was gunned down by unidentified armed assailants during a hot pursuit operation on Tuesday morning.

In a report, Police Lt. Col. Lino Capellan, public information chief of Police Regional Office (PRO) 12, said Carmen police chief Major Joan Resurreccion launched a hot pursuit operation upon receiving information about a shooting incident that killed a foreigner.

Police said Resurreccion went to Quarry Site, Sitio in Tawan Tawan, Poblacion in Carmen when he was shot dead by unidentified armed men.

Resurreccion was brought to the nearest hospital where he succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

In a Facebook post, PRO 12 North Cotabato condemned the killing of the police chief.  [ac]
