Drug gang ‘leader’ slain in Laguna
SAN PEDRO CITY –– An alleged leader of an illegal drug group in Calamba City in Laguna province was killed in a police shootout, authorities said Tuesday.
Police identified the suspect as Froilan Ibay, a resident of Barangay San Cristobal and leader of the Ibay Drug Group in the province.
A report from the Laguna police said Ibay met with undercover policemen and anti-narcotics agents in Barangay Banlic around 9 p.m. on Monday.
But during the buy-bust operation, Ibay suddenly drew and fired a .45 caliber gun, forcing authorities to shoot back.
The suspect died while being taken to the Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Hospital, police said.
