Surge in coronavirus infections among cops prompts partial closure of Cagayan police office

TUGUEGARAO CITY—A surge in COVID-19 cases among policemen in Cagayan prompted the partial closure on Monday of the province’s police office for disinfection after five policemen tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

At least 42 policemen were tested for the virus after a colleague was infected on Aug. 21, said Col. Ariel Quilang, Cagayan police chief. Test results showed at least five were positive for coronavirus, Quilang said.

The five were place on quarantine.

Nineteen others, who had been exposed to the five infected policemen, were isolated at the local government facility while 71 more policemen and civilian employees were asked to go on home quarantine.

Two police detainees were isolated after showing symptoms of COVID-19.
