MANILA, Philippines — A doctor of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila died on Sunday morning after more than a month of fighting the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Dr. Kathlynne Anne “Kharen” Abat-Senen, a 43-year-old neonatologist and infectious disease expert, was first admitted to the hospital in June after she tested positive for the virus, her husband Jerome said in an earlier interview with GMA News.
But two days after her discharge, she started feeling worse, leading to her return on July 10 to the PGH intensive care unit where she was again found positive for COVID-19.
Senen was also the only neonatologist in Valenzuela City, where she had to make rounds in various hospitals that could have exposed her to the virus the first time, Jerome said.
The PGH doctor was among at least 38 medical front-liners who died due to the disease.
