MANILA, Philippines — Three fishermen in Batanes have gone missing after venturing out to the waters on Thursday, according to the provincial government.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, the provincial information desk of the Batanes government said in a Facebook post Sunday morning.
“Patuloy pa rin po ang search and rescue operations ng Philippine Navy – Marines, CAFGU (Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Units) at Philippine Coast Guard upang hanapin ang mga tatlong nawawalang Ivatan na pumalaot upang mangisda noong Huwebes (August 20, 2020),” it added.
(Search and rescue operations are being conducted by the Philippine Navy – Marines, CAFGU, and the Philippine Coast Guard to locate the three Ivatans who ventured out to the sea to fish on Thursday.)
According to the provincial government, Governor Marilou Cayco has already sought assistance from the Armed Forces of the Philippines through Lt. Gen. Ramiro Rey, Northern Luzon Command chief, and Lt. Commander Rodney Cudal, chief of the Civil-Military Operations of the Naval Forces Northern Luzon.
It said an aerial search will be conducted by the Philippine Navy in the waters of Batanes and Calayan to locate the missing fishermen if the weather condition will be favorable.
