MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will never support a revolutionary government amid calls from a group of supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte for its establishment.
In a statement Sunday, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac made this assurance after PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa confirmed that he received an invitation from the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte – National Executive Coordinating Committee (MRRD-NECC) to attend a meeting that will push for the creation of a revolutionary government.
MRRD-NECC is an organization that urged Duterte to run for president in 2016.
“The PNP remains true and loyal to the Constitution. We will continue to uphold it and obey legal orders from the duly constituted authorities,” Banac said.
“The PNP will never support any move to establish a revolutionary government,” he added.
In an interview with reporters on Friday, Gamboa said he received the invitation for the August 20 meeting through a Viber message but the physical copy of the invitation did not reach him.
Around 300 individuals, including supporters who participated online, earlier assembled at the Clark Freeport in Pampanga to push for the establishment of a revolutionary government to be headed by Duterte until the end of his term in 2022.
