COVID-19 cases at House of Representatives reach 51

MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives on Saturday logged 51 total cases of coronavirus disease, including 11 active cases, after one of its employees from Bills and Index Service tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement, House Secretary-General Jose Luis Montales said the 51st case was confined to the hospital for pneumonia but is under stable condition.

“He was hospitalized for pneumonia and persistent hiccups. He is in stable condition,” Montales said.

Contact tracing for the infected worker is ongoing, Montales added.

He also noted that the employee reported for work last August 10 until August 12.

As of August 21, the Philippines has a total of 182,365 cases of COVID-19. Of the number, 114,519 are recoveries and 2,940 are deaths.
