Cop’s wife kills self with his firearm

A woman married to a policeman shot herself in the chest using her husband’s service firearm inside their house in Novaliches, Quezon City, before dawn Sunday, according to a police report.

Case investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Eric Lazo of the Quezon City Police District’s homicide section said the woman’s body was found by her 12-year-old son around 2:30 a.m.

The family lives on Samuel Street in Jordan Plains Subdivision, Barangay (village) Sta. Monica, Quezon City.

The woman’s death has been tagged by the police as an apparent case of suicide based on the statements given by her husband and son.

Based on the police report, the woman used the 9mm service firearm of her husband, who is assigned to the Police Regional Office 4, to kill herself.

The victim’s son told investigators that he woke up when he heard what sounded like water dripping on the floor. The couple and their son shared the same bedroom.

The boy added that when he looked around for the source of the noise, he found his mother seated on the floor, leaning against a cabinet with a gunshot wound in her chest.

He said he immediately woke up his father and they rushed the victim to Far Eastern University Hospital.

Doctors, however, declared the woman dead on arrival.

The husband, meanwhile, told investigators that his wife’s action had taken him by surprise.

He admitted that he and his wife had fought and argued the night before but they had patched things up before they went to bed.

He and his son also informed the police that the victim had attempted to kill herself in November by drinking insecticide.

The police said that based on the statements of the family’s neighbors, the couple had been fighting because the woman suspected her husband of having an affair.
