Bicycle lanes could soon pop up along major hospital districts across Manila and Quezon City to help move medical front-liners hampered by limited public transport.

Speaking to reporters, Transport Assistant Secretary Steve Pastor said these would be part of the P1.035-billion Metro Manila bike lane network project of the Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and the Department of Public Works and Highways to promote active transport.

The bike lanes are expected to be finished by Aug. 26, he added.

According to him, there will be two initial bike lane networks—one traversing Manila via Taft Avenue, Quirino Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, and UN Avenue. This will serve Philippine General Hospital, Manila Doctors’ Hospital, Manila Medical Center, and Ospital ng Maynila.

The second one will pass through Quezon City via V. Luna to East Avenue, Elliptical Road to Araneta Avenue via Quezon Avenue, and Commonwealth Avenue to Elliptical Road. This will serve Philippine Children’s Hospital, Lung Center of the Philippines, Philippine Heart Center, Philippine Veterans’ Hospital, and East Avenue Medical Center.
