MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed 4,339 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 on Thursday, bringing the country’s caseload to 178,022.

Of the new cases, 2,590 cases were logged in Metro Manila, 223 from Laguna province, and 155 from Cavite.

A total of 61,025 cases are considered active, the DOH said.

The number of recoveries rose to 114,114 with 727 new recoveries while 88 more deaths were recorded, bringing the death toll to 2,883.

Most of 91.3% of the total of cases exhibited mild symptoms of the disease, 6.6% are asymptomatic, 1.2% are critical, while 0.6% are severe.

There were 91 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, 43 recovered cases have been removed.

Moreover, 51 cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, those were 50 deaths and one active case.

“These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH said.
