BOC confiscates 7,999 capsules of downer drugs in Pasay City

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) through the Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) has confiscated 7,999 capsules of downer drugs weighing 5.376 kilograms at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay City.

According to a BOC report on Thursday, members of the Customs Anti-Illegal Drugs Taskforce and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confirmed that the capsules were “dextropropoxyphene,” a downer drug being regulated in the country.

The seized drugs were consigned to a certain Sandeep Kumar.

According to BOC, its personnel examined the shipment as part of the directive of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero to inspect and clear BOC facilities of abandoned and overstaying parcels.

Port of NAIA District Collector Carmelita Talusan, meanwhile, reminded the public to ensure that all goods they import have necessary permits.

She also warned that importing drugs must be in compliance with and permitted by the Food and Drug Administration as these are regulated substances.
