MANILA, Philippines — Another police officer has died due to coronavirus infection, bringing the latest count at the Philippine National Police (PNP) at 14 deaths, the police organization said on Wednesday.
According to an update from the PNP’s Public Information Office (PNP-PIO), the latest COVID fatality within the police force was a 45-year-old male non-commissioned police officer from the Aviation Security Group.
He died last August 12.
Meanwhile, the number of infected PNP personnel is now at 3,098 after 63 new cases were recorded on Wednesday.
Of the new cases, 36 were from the National Capital Region Police Office, eight from the National Operations Support Unit, seven from the National Administrative Unit, and two were from the National Headquarters in Camp Crame.
There were also recorded cases from various police regional offices (PRO): five from PRO-4A, three from PRO-3, and one each from PRO-4B and PRO-6.
The number of suspected COVID-19 patients within the PNP is at 2,412, and probable patients are at 739. At least 2,258 police officers have recovered so far.
