MANILA, Philippines—A 46-year-old bank employee was arrested by members of the special response unit of the police after he was caught firing his gun indiscriminately in a neighborhood in Pasig City on Saturday night.
Police identified the suspect as Agustin Frederick Apilado, a resident of Hillcrest Drive in Barangay (village) Oranbo, Pasig City.
In his report submitted to the Pasig police headquarters, Senior Police Office 3 Rogelio Villanueva, investigator on case, said some concerned citizens alerted the police in the area around 7:30 p.m. about a commotion taking place at the Robinson Circle on Hillcrest Drive.
The suspect, then armed with a 9mm pistol, began threatening his neighbor, 38-year-old businessman Jay Wanbangco, on the street over some personal issues.
When police arrived at the scene, Apilado suddenly fired his gun in the air, Villanueva said.
It was at that point that they sought the help of the members of the Special Response Unit in their usual full battle gear.
“After a few minutes of negotiation, the suspect surrendered without a fight, turning over his firearm to the police,” Villanueva said.
The suspect was detained at the Pasig City Jail while awaiting the appropriate charges to be filed against him.
