MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila chief executives have agreed to pass an ordinance that would require the wearing of face shields aside from face masks, Parañaque City Mayor and Metro Manila Council (MMC) chairman Edwin Olivarez said Wednesday.
“Ang face shield, ang gagawin muna ngayon, sisitahin muna sila kasi gagawan ng ordinansa tulad ng sa amin, magkakaroon kami ng ordinansa sa face shield para may penalty na tulad ng face mask,” Olivarez said over Teleradyo when sought for comment about the latest health protocol to beat COVID-19.
(For face shield, what we will do for now is we will just warn them because we will still come up with an ordinance just like in our city, we will create an ordinance for face shields so there will be penalties like the ordinance on the wearing of face masks.)
“‘Yun po ang aming pinag-usapan pero mayroong particular na ordinansa na gagawin ang city councils,” the mayor added.
(That’s what we talked about but we have a particular ordinance that will be done by city councils.)
So far in the National Capital Region, only the Municipality of Pateros has an ordinance requiring all its residents to wear face shields in public places.
Under Municipal Ordinance 2020-20, those who will not wear face shields outside of their homes in Pateros will be detained for 12 hours or pay a fine of P2,000.
Also, the Department of Trade and Industry previously required workers to wear face shields on top of face masks while The Department of Transportation likewise compelled employees and commuters to wear face shields and face masks inside public transportation.
